scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray analysis were used to show the presence of crystals believed to be calcium oxalate in leaf and bract tissues of cotton plants. the crystals were present in both fresh and dried materials. in the dry leaves and bracts the crystals were often found crushed. several forms of the crystals were observed. these crystals were also found in dusts removed by washing from harvested cotton fibers, and in dusts collected in a cotton processing mill. crystals from mill dusts were broken and fragments were dispersed throughout the dusts 29 refs
