cotton fabrics are vulnerable to laundering conditions. the effects of commonly used household laundry detergents on cotton broadcloth have been investigated. laundry abrasion and the deterioration of appearance characteristics are the key factors in determining service life of washable fabrics. laundry conditions and chemical finishes, however, govern the extent of deterioration cotton textiles sustain in laundering. 16 refs
