data are presented which show that the antideposition properties of antiredeposition agents depend not only on thier concentration and on the nature of the textile, but also on the particle size of the soil and on its degree of dispersion. it is found that the nonionic antiredeposition agents are more effective than cmc for preventing the deposition of very fine carbon blacks on cotton fiber at low concentrations of antiredeposition agent and surfactant, while the opposite is true for the deposition on polyester fiber. with coarser carbon blacks and at higher concentrations this is reversed, and cmc is superior for cotton, while the nonionic antiredeposition agents are more effective on polyester. 31 refs
