the paper discusses the role of ddt and other chemical pesticides in the protection of plants and animals from disease and infection. using as an example cotton and two of its pests, the cotton leafworm, spodoptera littoralis, (boisd. ) and the pink bollworm, pectinophera gossypiella (saund. ), measures taken to minimize pesticide applications are presented. finally, the regulatory structure in egypt and its enabling legislation are examined
