the effect of the presence of chlorine ion potable water supplies used for dyeing on shade reproducibility in dyeing of basic, direct and fiber reactive dyes on the appropriate substrates of acrylic and cotton fibers was studied. shade changes in both depth and hue are given for various levels of chlorine. small amounts of chlorine can cause serious degradation of dyes and significantly impair shade matching, especially in pastel and light shades. 3 refs
