to keep the working environment free from health hazards the permissible exposure to cotton-dust has to be decreased. lower permissible exposure makes the $left double quote$ representativeness $right double quote$ of the sample more important and development of methods to estimate the sampling errors become necessary. a theoretical model and a computer-program-system have been developed to estimate such errors. the model takes into account the inertial and sedimentation effects on the particle motion results obtained by the use of the computer-program-system agree very well with the experimental data reported in the literature. 19 refs
