an investigation was made the process of styrene sorption by natural (cotton) and by hydrocellulose (viscose) fibers at various stages of the graft polymerization. as the objects of investigation the authors used specimens of viscose fiber (0. 166 text), native cotton, cotton freed of oils and wax, and also specimens of the indicated fiber types containing various amounts of grafted ps kinetic curves for the sorption of styrene from an aqueous emulsion indicate that, under the same conditions, sorption equilibrium is reached considerably more quickly in the sorption of styrene by cotton than by viscose fiber. the amount of styrene sorbed by the cotton is approximately four times as large as that sorbed by the viscose fiber. it is interesting to note that removal of oils and wax from the cotton essentially does not reduce the sorption of styrene. 5 refs
