during the summers of 1974 and 1975 a carefully controlled series of tests was conducted to determine the potential contamination of the operator's environment in an air-conditioned tractor operator enclosure when applying toxic pesticides. these tests (which were carried out while spraying cotton, soybeans and pecans in arkansas and mississippi) indicated that the operator enclosure being tested did provide the tractor operator with a significant amount of protection from the airborne toxic chemicals used. an experimental activated charcoal filter did not improve the effectiveness of the enclosure's air filtering system
