the paper reports on a study to investigate whether the use of a propionic acid-based chemical would prevent the deterioration of damp, freshly harvested seed cotton during 9 months of storage and to determine the effects of its use on lint quality and on cottonseed germination. seed cotton of 17 percent moisture content was treated with a propionic-acetic acid mixture and stored for 9 months before ginning. spoilage was severe in the outer layers. the quality of the ginned lint from the remainder compared favorably, except for color with the lint quality of the control
