Rieter recently began distribution of the Jossy Company's Vision shield system for the detection, separation, and measurement of foreign material. The Vision Shield cleaning machine, installed after precleaning, prevents most of the separation triggered by trash particles. The system consists of 12 fluorescent tubes that illuminate the cotton tufts on all sides; two CCD color line cameras that record the images; and a computer that analyzes the hue, color saturation, and color intensity of individual pixels and compares them with customized reference values. A rapid changeover flat immediately separates detected impurities. Rieter also distributes a measuring instrument for the quick determination of the moisture content of a bale. The device uses a transmitter to send microwaves through the bale. A receiving unit determines the moisture content from the signal it receives. The device determines the moisture content within a few seconds to an accuracy of 0.5 percent.
