An overview of recent developments in fiber baling addresses the standardization of bale dimensions, development of pressing force, automation of bale wrapping, standardization of wrapping methods, automatic bale strapping, and baling systems for several fiber lines. Trends indicate that the installation of highly automated system will continue to increase, whereas purchase of single machines and components will decline. Approximately 30 percent of baling presses are equipped with an automatic wrapping system. Automating the wrapping process increase productivity to 35 bales per hour. Approximately 90 percent of all manmade fiber bales are wrapped according to an international standard, with the wrapping material under the bale straps. Automatic strapping methods lower wrapping costs significantly. Baling systems, which feature automatic packing lines in which each press is equipped with an automatic wrapping and strapping device, and the autefa Uni-Box system, which features several prepresses assigned to a specific fiber line, work in conjunction with one or more presses.
