Strategies developed by the Wool Research Organization of New Zealand (WRONZ) to assist the New Zealand wool industry and increase wool prices include research and development and brandname identification. New technologies developed by WRONZ include Lanalbin APB antiphotobleaching agent for carpets, Languard zero effluent insect resistance treatment, and a device for producing a persian carpet knot with a simple threading action. Current research focuses on reducing the harsh hand and prickliness of New Zealand midmicron wools. WRONZ also developed a technology for manufacturing wool/viscose and wool/modal yarns for knit apparel. Other research focuses on new nonwoven uses for wool fibers, lowering conversion costs, and the reduction of pesticide residues.
