A fiber has been developed for use in medical and hygiene products that contains hydrogen peroxide. Urea peroxide is used as a bacteria-retardant and as a deodorant to remove smells such as those from formaldehyde, phenol, hydrogen sulphide, and carbon disulphide. The amount of urea peroxide is adjusted in the viscose fibre containing polysilic acid (Visil) by adjusting: the concentration of the impregnating solution; the ratio of textiles to the amount of solution; and the retention times of the textiles in the solution. Impregnation is acheived by immersion or spraying.
