This paper describes a suitable process for the manufacture of medical fibres of monofilament type, comprising of the melt extrusion of dyed (violet) polydioxanone polymer containing 0.1? by weight of D and C Violet no.2. the subject polymers should have an inherent viscosity range of 1.79-1.92 dl/gr. Monofilaments produced are used in the manufacture of surgical devices such as absorbable orthopaedic pins in fracture repair procedures.
