Polyester carpet pile close to commercial reality

Shell Chemical Co. have introduced a polytrimethylene terephthalate fibre into the market which is to be used in carpet pile. The will be the first polyester to be used in this application. The fibre combines the resilience and elastic recovery of nylon with the strain resistance of polyester. It is the first new fibre to be introduced to the carpet trade in the last 25 years. It is likely that the first carpets made from this fibre will emerge in the third quarter of 1998 and will be aimed at the contract market. Once established in this sector the fibre will be used in domestic carpeting.
