Experience with the Uhde CO₂-dyeing plant on technical scale. I. Optimization steps of the pllot plant and first dyeing results

Uhde Hochdrucktechnik has designed and built a supercritical CO? dyeing pilot plant on a technical scale with a 20 1 autoclave based on the experience of DTNW. Meanwhile the machine has been optimized to get deep and uniform dyeings of PET. Some important factors which affect the dyeings, concerning the plant, the fibers, the dyes, and the optimum dyeing conditions are reported. Furthermore, a comparison between water and CO? dyeing results of PET in relation to the dye uptake and the fastness properties is presented. Initial results show that the dye uptake and fastness properties are very similar to water dyeing. Technical optimization of the Uhde pilot plant relating to the dye storage vessel, circulation pump and integration of filters for lint, dyes and cyclic trimers, is described.
