Courtaulds developed a new member of the lyocell fiber family, tradenamed Tencel A100. The new fiber is slightly hairier and whiter than conventional Tencel and has no peach skin characteristics. It is chemically crosslinked during production, before drying. The new fiber retains many of the conventional Tencel features, but is fibrillation-free. A wide variety of wet processing equipment is suitable for processing Tencel A100. Research on the wet processing effects examined Tencel A100's dyeability with reactive, direct, and vat dyes. Direct dyeing did not affect the fibrillation behavior and showed final color improvements of 2-50 percent compared with conventional Tencel. Vat dyeing reduced fibrillation protection. Tests using common reactive dyes showed no effects to fibrillation, improved dye yields, and reduced dyeing costs. Severe bleaching adversely affected Tencel A100's fibrillation index.
