The fiber characteristics and spinning performance on 39 chief trade varieties of Indian cottons were examined. Mean fiber lengths were obtained by using a Baer sorter. A digital fibrograph determined the 2.5 percent span lengths and the uniformity ratios. Bundle-strength values were obtained by using a Pressley strength stelometer. A Shirley analyzer tested samples for trash content, including cage loss. Sample sizes weighing 4.5 kilograms were processed. Two counts of yarn were spun and conditioned before each testing.
