Managing the selection and cost of raw materials is critical to the success of a fiber processing operation. Approximately 52 percent of the value of a pound of yarn is tied directly to the cost of the raw material. The use of a computer-based cotton fiber management system, such as the Engineered Fiber Selection (EFS), can minimize cotton costs, improve yarn quality, and improve manufacturing efficiency. The EFS system will be used by over 30 companies in Europe and the United States to manage more than 4 million bales. Three major improvements have been made to the EFS system: Quick Response software, real-time inventory management, and bale storage and selection using bale numbers rather than categories.
