Antibacterial properties are often given to synthetic or artificial fibrs by adding organic or inorganic additives. As an alternative to this, special zeolites or ceramic substrate containing silver or zinc ions have also been used. It has been found however that using inorganic additives results in the production of low dtex fibre. This article describes a new inorganic substrate developed by Montefibre it has very fine particle size and if added to the fibre in small amounts has effective antibacterial properties without damaging the fibre properties.
