An overview of trends in jute processing describes IJIRA machinery developments int he areas of softening, breaker and finisher carding, drawing, spinning, spool and cop winding, beaming, weaving, and sewing. For softening, IJIRA reduced the pairs of rolls from 64 to 16 without impairing the quality and softening of fibers. The introduction of grist monitoring and autoleveling improves the quality of slivers in terms of weight variation. To achieve higher productivity and reduce maintenance costs during drawing, researchers replaced faller bars with roller drafting for the control of fibers in the drafting zone. 7 refs.
