Cotton fiber, yarn, and fabric quality are influenced by growing conditions as well as changes in the manufacturing segments of the textile industry. Developments in technology, know-how, and resources are available to help manufacturers eliminate or reduce almost any problem associated with cotton fiber varieties. Changes in growing cotton and the demand for cotton fiber are discussed. Data shows that growers in the United States are electing to grow stronger cotton varieties in response to the needs of the textile mills they supply. To ensure yarn quality, spinning mills must select the best fiber for the end-use. Spinning systems must meet demands of economics, automation, and yarn quality. Ways of reducing barre and neps in cotton fabrics are addressed.
