Depending on variety, area of growth, environmental conditions, degree of maturity, argonomic practices, and other factors, the noncellulosic constituents of raw cotton quantitatively and qualitatively. Discounting plant trash, the level of noncellulosics in cotton is about 5 percent; the practical range in commercial cottons extends from lell than 3 percent to 12 percent. These noncellulosics, proteins, herbicides, secretions, oil, and grease. The effects of these constituents on fabric quality and the composition of wastewater are discussed. Abstract.
