process combination and an increase in process speed were the first two major developments in the production of false twist set textured yarn with increased dyeability and uniformity. Three major developments in false twist mechanisms were pin twisting, triaxial disc friction twisting, and contact twisting. Increasing process speed has been a significant goal since the beginning. Murata's nip twisting system was introduced in 1979. The demand for higher speeds for mid-range products subsequently led to the development of the self false twist system. Process combination has reached the mature stage; development of a totally integrated system continues.
