Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) was used to examine the melt-crystallization behavior of polyethlylene oxide(PEO) in its blend with cellulose. Solutions of dimethylacete-lithium chloride (followed by coagulation in a nonsolvent) were used to prepare the samples. The Avrami equation was then used to obtain the crystallization isotherms of PEO and PEO blends at various temperatures. As a result of increasing the cellulose content, the overall crystallization rate became slower while the Avrami exponent remained almost constant. The addition of cellulose to PEO resulted in a minor reduction of surface of free energy. 31 refs.
