The continuous dissolution of cellulose in the solvent, N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMMO), by either a mixing/kneading technology or a thin film technology yields lyocell fiber. List AG's mixing/kneading lines consist of the Co-Rotating Processor, which continuously conditions the raw materials, and the Discotherm B, which continuously dissolves the cellulose. The Co-Rotating Processor mixes and homogenizes cellulose and the solvent, activates the dope under atmospheric pressure and at temperatures from 80-85 degrees centigrade, mixes the dope with additives, and thermally conditions the mixture to prevent thermal degradation. The Discotherm-B evaporates water from the dissolves and homogenizes the mixture under vacuum, maintains a high cellulose content in the solution, and minimizes the quantity of solvent used.
