New, Highly Active PET Catalyst Commercially Available on Production Scale.

Acordis Research GmbH's C-94 catalyst is a highly active catalyst for the condensation polymerization of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Manufacture of the catalyst uses hydrolytically stable titanium/silicon mixed oxides. The catalyst is up to eight times more active than antimony based catalysts. C-94 has applications in all commercial processes used to manufacture PET, including dimethyl terephthalate and pure terephthalic acid based continuous and batch processes. The catalyst can also be used in the manufacture of other polyester, such as polybutylene terephthalate and polytrimethylene terephthalate. C-94 has a titanium to silicon ratio of 9:1, is nontoxic, has no hydrolytic sensitivity, and is available in powder form with a particle size of less 10 microns.
