Experiments involved chopping, grinding, and extracting with a methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) solution to separate the polyester in the base fabrics, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) coating, plasticizers, and adhesive in PVC coated fabrics. This swelling recovery method has little environmental impact. The MEK/water system that serves as the swelling bath showed phase separation over a wide concentration range. Tests determined such parameters as the refractive index, swelling degree, and average particle size of the recovered PVC. 20 refs.
