A review of chemical recycling techniques of waste saturated polyesters and polyurethanes discusses glycolysis with ethylene, diethylene, propylene, or dipropylene glycol, one of the most frequently used methods. The recyclate can be used to make polyurethane foams, elastomers, and sealants. Waste polyurethanes can also be degraded by glycolysis or alcoholysis with alkanolamines and reprocessed in a similar manner. The reprocessed polyurethane materials have good properties and are inexpensive. 29 refs.
