The efficiency of caprolactam removal from industrial wastewaters using the biocenosis of activated sludge-caprolactam system depends on caprolactam concentration in the effluent, activated sludge concentration in the aerotank, and aeration duration and intensity. Effluent flow is critical to efficient aerotank operation and depends on reasonal variations in water input. These fluctuations primarily affect the hydrodynamic regime in the aerotanks. An examination of one purification facility measured daily nonuniformity of wastewater input in spring and summer, daily nonuniformity of contaminants in spring and winter, dynamics of caprolactam concentration, level of wastewater decontamination, and kinetics of biochemical oxidation of caprolactam with adapted and unadapted activated sludge. 6 refs.
