Researchers investigating the regional market values of cotton fiber paid by textile manufacturers for cotton quality attributes constructed hedonic price models using data collected from textile manufacturers in the 1997-1998 marketing year to estimate quality premiums and discounts in the South, Southwest, and San Joaquin Valley. Analysis revealed marked differences in price differentials across the three regions. Responsiveness in price paid by manufacturers for color was highest for cotton from the South. Price responsiveness for fiber length was highest for cotton from the San Joaquin Valley. Price was most responsive to variations in strength in the Southwest. 4 refs.
