Worldwide trends in the production and development of manmade fibers are described. Production of cellulosic, nylon, acrylic, and other manmade fibers is considered. After a short history of manmade fiber production is presented, products by leading fiber manufacturers for the apparel, home furnishings, and biomedical markets are described. The emergence and growing importance of microfiber production is considered. New technology for producing microfibers is described. 14refs.
