Although online quality control does not eliminate conventional laboratory control completely, it accelerates and simplifies the collection of data concerning productivity and quality. Online systems continuously monitor process parameters, indicate disturbances and inefficiencies instantly and objectively, assist in planning material and personnel assignments, and automate labor intensive and routine tasks. in spinning mills, online monitoring systems have been developed for preparatory stages, blowroom and carding sequences, drawing, roving, ring spinning, rotor spinning, and winding. Online monitoring provides information concerning machine production, spindle operations, yarn evenness and twist, bobbin variations, and yarn clearing. 9 refs.
