Courtauld's solvent-spun process for manufacturing Tencel, a cellulosic fiber, involved heating the amine oxide which is then used to dissolve wood pulp. This process produces a very clear, viscous solution. This solution is then filtered, spun into a bath, and recycled. Tencel's fiber structure possesses a smooth surface and a circular cross-section. It can be blended with cotton and polyester to obtain high-strength yarns. Applications include apparel, home furnishings, and industrial fabrics. The fiber offers stability, high tear and tensile properties, and comfort.
