A simplified, low-cost, continuous polycondensation process (LCCP) was designed to make smaller units available at reasonable prices. The new process is used for PTA and monoethylene glycol (MEG). The viscosity of PTA and MEG paste was reduced, and it can now be mixed in an ordinary mixing vessel. Heating and polycondensation occurred in two reaction vessels. A central computer station controls the process, and a delta p viscometer is used for process control. The use of only three reactors reduces building costs.
