Lateral reagent migration during controlled drying was quantitatively assessed Methyl cellulose was used to control migration during the drying of knitted cotton fabrics impregnated with crosslinking reagents. Methyl cellulose in aqueous solution has a unique property of forming a gel when heated. During drying, the reagent solution gels and significantly restricts movement of water and reagents in the capillaries of the fabric. The effects of methyl cellulose concentration on the rate ad extent of migration were evaluated. Abstract.
