The 1999 National Cottonseed Treatment Program evaluated cotton seeding survival for a range of fungicide seed treatments under different environmental conditions, levels, and types of pathogens. Chemical industry representatives nominated 16 fungicide seed treatments for the program. The program included a conventional fungicide treatment (Vitavax-PCNB + Apron)and a nontreated control to evaluate the nominated treatments and seeding disease pressure. The addition of the fungicide treatments Apron or PCNB assisted in determining the importance of Pythium species and Rhizoctonia solani, respectively. Collecting seedlings and soil from nontreated control plots at each location generated disease ratings and pathogen isolations for seedlings and soil populations of selected soilborne fungi. The program also collected soil temperature and plant development data. 4 refs.
