Performance of Bt Cotton in Mississippi, 1999.

Becillus thuringiensis (Bt) transgenic cotton accounted for 65 percent of Mississippi's total 1999 cotton acreage. Late season boll damage surveys to compare the performance of Bt and non-Bt cotton varieties revealed that Bt fields experienced less caterpillar induced boll damage and received fewer foliar insecticide treatments. Trends in the individual regions of the state were similar to those of the entire state. 7 refs.
