In cotton fields, low temperatures after sowing increase the time to emergence; reduce seedling vigor; and lead to poor early growth, poor establishment, greater risk of disease, and increased susceptibility to herbicide damage. Daily minimum temperatures of below 11 degrees centigrade adversely affect cotton growth and development, including the timing of emergence, squaring, and flowering. Tables and graphs present average daily temperature, number of frosts, number of cold shocks, and high temperature occurrences for each week during the growing season for locations in the major Australian cotton growing areas, as well as the highest and lowest values in the climatic record.
