An overview of cotton insect infestation in the United States in 1999 describes crop and arthropod pest conditions and research developments in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, new Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Arthropod pests reduced cotton yield b 7.66 percent in 1999. Cotton fleahopper accounted for 2.36 percent of pest related loss. Boll weevil continued as the second most damaging pest. State and federal researchers recommended several new products for use against cotton pests, modified the list of pesticides recommended for arthropod pest control, and tested several experimental materials and pesticides in field trials.
