The reniform nematode Rotylenchulus reniformis greatly reduces cotton yield. Form 1974-1999, its incidence in Georgia increased from less than 0.5 percent to approximately 5 percent. Management involves the use of nematicides and crop rotation. Conventional nematicide treatment recommends 5-7 pounds of Temik 15G (aldi-carb) per acre in-furrow at planting or 3 gallons of Telone II(1,3-D)preplant plus 3.5 pounds of Temik in-furrow. Supplemental treatments involve the use of Temik as a postemergence sidedress application and Vydate C-LV as a postemergence spray. Field trials with these supplemental treatments generated inconsistent results. Crop rotation is the only viable alternative to nematicide use for management. Corn is a nonhost for reniform nematodes, and some soybean varieties are highly resistant. Abstract.
