Lenzing's CIS 200 automatically monitors crimp during manmade staple fiber production. Its two main components are a central control unit to set testing parameters and collect, store, transfer, and present data and optical sensors consisting of intelligent cameras with digital signal processors (DSP) and infrared lighting control. Each camera continuously photographs the fiber tow surface, and the DSP continuously analyzes the images, comparing them with selected values. This arrangement eliminates the need to transfer images to a central control unit, which dramatically increases image sampling and analysis rates.
