The claim concerns the melt spinning of polypropylene fibers from a polymer based on isotactic polypropylene and a transition metal selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium, hafnium and vanadium. The polymer is heated to form a melt which is extruded to produce a fibre preform. This is then spun at at least 5000 m/min and drawn at at leat 1500 m/min to produce a draw ratio of 3, giving a continuous polypropylene fibre. IPC. D01F.
