VTT Chemical Technology - in collaboration with industry and the University of Oulu - has developed a manufacturing process in which flax fibre is used as reinforcement in injection molded thermoplastic components. The company claims that the method reduces the amount of plastic matrix usually required by a third, and other advantages include reduced wear of plastic-forming machines, manufacturing tools and dies, as well as ease of recycling.
