Some of the trends discussed at the recent Textile Institute Conference in Manchester, UK, are highlighted. Dyeing cationic cotton with direct and fibre reactive dyes leads to outstanding wet fastness properties without reducing light fastness performance. Polyester meanwhile is likely to remain super-competitive on price, particularly with cotton. Olefins will continue to expand, particularly in low-cost non-apparel markets.
