One session of the annual Beltwide Cotton Conference addressed equipment developments, including automated lint cleaner louvers and a system for providing depth control on precision implements. More cotton ginners are installing the IntelliGin ginning system from Zellweger Uster. Although the system has been on the market for five years, fee reductions have made it more affordable to producers. John Deere's Accudepth control system enables depth control precision to within 0.2 inch on implements. The system helps with moisture conservation and enhances crop emergence. John Deere's mulch ripper helps to optimize residue management, improves soil breakdown, and conditions the soil. Rising costs for fuel and labor, as well as the need to conserve moisture, are driving the developments of new machinery for cotton growing and ginning.
