A study grew three varieties of low THC hemp(Kompolti, Zolotonosha 11, and Zolotonosha 13) under a range of moisture conditions and seeding rates and measured the resulted maturity rate, retting time, and fiber tensile properties. Researchers collected samples at times ranging from 33 days to eight months and tank retted the plants from 4.0-6.6 days. Fiber yields for Kompolti hemp ranged from 27-31 percent. Fiber tenacity ranged from 27.2 +/-6.1 to 40.7 +/-8.8 centinewtons per tex, and retting time did not significantly affect tenacity. Samples cultivated at 33 days were much weaker than those cultivated at 39 and 53 days. There was no significant difference in the tenacity of fibers grown for 39 days and fibers grown for eight months. The Zolotonosha varieties were only slightly weaker than the Kompolti variety. 18 refs.
