Polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) dispersions for textile applications result from emulsion polymerization and contain 23-30 percent polymer particles and some surfactant in an aqueous medium. Due to their highly fluorinated alkyl groups, impregnation of PTFE dispersions into fibers imparts high levels of oil and water resistance. Recent developments in PTFE finishing focus on specific formulations for natural fibers, manmade fibers, and knife or exhaustion application processes. 4 refs.
