Treating fibers with solutions of salts, polymers, and other chemical compounds can alter their physical, mechanical, and chemical properties. Researchers investigated the effects of chemical treatments on the physical and mechanical properties of polycaproamide fibers. Chemical treatment of the fibers entailed aqueous solutions of the satls Co(NO(3)(2), NaNO(3), and Cr(NO(3))(3). An RM-3-1 tensile testing machine determined breaking load. Experimental data and calculation procedures established the coefficients of variation for determining the effects of chemical treatments (type of salt cation, concentration of salt, and duration of treatment) on fiber defects. 7 refs.
