Researchers investigated the properties and processing conditions of spinning solutions based on polyvinyl alcohol containing the protelytic enzyme pretease C, the high molecular weight antimicrobial agent polyhexamethyleneguanidine hydrochloride, and such modifying additives as sodium alginate and sodium tetraborate. A correlation existed between the protelytic activity and degree of swelling of the resultant films and the composition of the spinning solutions used to prepare the films. Measurements included intensity of scattered light flux versus the composition of the polymeric composite, effects of the composition of polymeric composite on the relative activity and stability of the immobilized enzyme, effects of the composition of the polymeric composite and order of component addition on enzyme properties, rheological properties of spinning solutions, and effects of sodium tetraborate on enzyme activity in films. 11 refs.
